Bournemouth vs Southampton

Our prediction for this Premier League match:

Bournemouth will look to recover from a 3-0 loss to Liverpool when they take on Southampton in the Premier League round 6. The Cherries do not seem to be at their sharpest, but it seems as if they will not have a better chance than this to return to winning ways. Burkina Faso forward Dango Ouattara is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while Tyler Adams remains on the sidelines with a back injury.

The Saints, on the other hand, are stuck at the bottom of the table with only one point on their account and given their difficulties on the road, we predict that Bournemouth are going to pick up all three points from Sunday’s clash. To make things even worse for the away team, defender Jack Stephens is banned for the match. Midfielder Will Smallbone faces race against the clock to be fit for Monday’s showdown.

How the bookies view it: Cherries to taste victory

Bournemouth are short priced 8/13 favourites on WJPESO to earn what would be a first victory of the season in front of their own supporters.

A second successive stalemate involving Southampton has been chalked up as 16/5 (WJPESO) shot, while first Saints success of the season is on offer at 18/5 (PHMACAO).

Head to head: Saints seeking more South Coast success

Southampton have emerged victorious from each of their last three visits to the Vitality, keeping a clean sheet on each occasion for good measure.

However, it’s worth noting that Bournemouth did bag the South Coast bragging rights when the two sides last locked horns at St Mary’s thanks to a 1-0 victory in April 2023.

Bournemouth vs Southampton Prediction

Monday night action is reserved for the south coast derby as Bournemouth and Southampton are set to lock horns in the last match of Gameweek No 6 in the Premier League.

The hosts enter the derby as the clear favourites and for a good reason. Bournemouth possess much more quality in their ranks and they play in front of the home fans at Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries did lose two games on the bounce without scoring but they’ve faced the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in the process.

They were actually great in the mentioned defeat to Chelsea two weeks ago at Vitality, creating numerous chances on the occasion. Evanilson even missed a penalty in that match.

Bournemouth hold the 13th place in the league standings with just one win in five games but they did have a pretty tough schedule at the beginning of the season.

Southampton had a somewhat easier set of fixtures to begin win but they’ve still only managed to collect a single point from five inaugural outings.

It came last Saturday in a 1-1 home stalemate to fellow strugglers Ipswich Town. The Saints boast the worst attacking record in the division with just two goals scored in the opening five outings.

Southampton do not seem to have enough quality to compete at this level. The fact they’ve scored just twice in the maiden five rounds speaks volumes.

On the other side, Bournemouth showed impressive displays in two home fixtures so far. They have claimed a single point in the process but we’d not be mistaken to claim that they deserved all six despite facing the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea.

The Cherries are finally looking ahead of a winnable clash in front of the home fans. The atmosphere will be electric due to the hatred between the two south coast sides.

The home win is the only logical betting option at the 1.65 odds while we also have to take the 2.87 odds offered for Antoine Semenyo to score anytime for Bournemouth.

Semenyo has two goals to his name this season. He was also on target in a 0-3 defeat at Liverpool last weekend but his goal git ruled out for a marginal offside.

Players to watch: Taylor to tackle his way into trouble?

Charlie Taylor committed a foul in his first Premier League start of the season for Southampton last weekend and he stands out to do so again here at 5/6 with 777PUB. The Saints left-back will likely be pitting his wits against Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who has been fouled seven times across his five top-flight outings this term.

Big money Bournemouth signing Evanilson is 11/10 on JILIPARK to break his duck for his new club at the sixth attempt on Monday night.

Predicted line-ups

Bournemouth are still without midfielder Tyler Adams who is currently sidelined with a back injury.

Southampton skipper Jack Stephens won’t lead his side into the first South Coast derby of the season as he is still suspended following his straight red card against Man United a fortnight ago.

Bournemouth: Kepa; Araujo, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Christie; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier; Evanilson

Southampton: Ramsdale; Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Taylor; Downes, Lallana; Dibbling, Fernandes, Fraser; Archer
